The Gadria basin is a small catchment (6.3 km2) located in the Vinschgau-Venosta valley, Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano, Italy. The basin has been equipped in 2011 in order to both monitor debris flow and to test warning systems. The monitoring systems in the basin consists of raingauges, radar sensors for the measurement of debris-flow stage, geophones, video cameras, piezometers and soil moisture probes. Most of the monitoring equipment has been purchased and installed by the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano, with some instruments acquired and maintained by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. The monitoring work has been conducted through the participation of the Dept. of Civil Protection of the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano to the EU Interreg IV B South East Europe – Project Monitor II (2010-2012), and thanks to funds of the project GESTO (granted by the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano to the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano). Since September 2012, the monitoring activities are partly funded by the European Territorial Cooperation Alpine Space Programme 2007–2013 SedAlp and since March 2013 also by the project KINOFLOW (granted by the Autonomous Province of Bozen-Bolzano).
